Boat toilet systems and all caravan/RV systems have toilets that do not flush straight into a sewer system. They generally deposit all waste into some sort of holding tank, prior to ultimate discharge. As part of this process, they often macerate the waste. This means that a combined pump and motor chops up all paper and waste to make it a sort of "slurry" so that is easy to pump out. This is often called "black water". It is very easy for a macerator pump to block up if a thoughtless person throws something down the toilet they should not. Often this is something as simple as a cigarette butt or a tampon. Both of these things will cause your whole toilet system to FAIL. That’s the end of the toilet for that day!
